Using Pinterest

Hi YRBKers.

Here's the deal with Pinterest and how to use it.

Get yourselves a pinterest account - if you haven't already. Next step is to send me your email address so I can invite you to be able to post on our Visual Clip File board. If you've already done this, great! You're all set to find pins to complete the visual clip file handout. Post 2 of each of the creative approaches to presenting visual content. This isn't about individual photographs, as much as it is HOW they are used in magazines, newspapers and well, yearbooks!

Don't forget to fill in the sheet and hand it in as well, stating why you find each one appealing. Be prepared to share with the class on Friday so we can discuss ways of using some of these techniques in our yearbook! We'll also be looking at the grade 11s scavenger hunt photos.

Email Ms. Silverman at lisa.silverman@tdsb.on.ca with your email address you used to set up your pinterest account and I'll add you to our LCI YRBK group board.

PIN IT!! Quick Reads and Infographics

Please find at least 10 types of quick reads that we could potentially use in our school yearbook and add them to our Pinterest Page (lciyrbk). Using the sheet provided (Quick Read Clip File) - list your reasons for selecting the quick read you selected AND what you think we could use it for in the school yearbook.

How to Use our Yearbook Pinterest Page:
Go to Pinterest.com and log in with the user name: lciyrbk@gmail.com and password lciyrbk.
Get the "pin-it" button to add to your computer (for google chrome go to this LINK)
or google "pin-it button" for whichever browser you use.

That way every time an image or page is viewed on the web, the pin it icon appears.

Once clicked, you can log in to the account on pinterest (if you haven't logged in already) and add the pins to whichever "board" is appropriate. In this case, we only have the one board called "quick reads".

Students should search for things like - quick reads for yearbook, alternative copy for yearbook, infographics, yearbook ideas for visual info etc.

Find a variety and jot down your notes on the paper. Submit to Ms. Silverman when you're finished.

Typography Building Blocks - Yearbook Class - Take 2

I didn't receive anyone's typography handouts from last week. So....if by chance you didn't happen to view the powerpoint on typography or do the handout, now's your chance to do it! Please hold on to it ready to submit WEDNESDAY in class.

Also, if you didn't finish yesterday's handout - creating a design as we viewed the powerpoint, then please finish that today while viewing the powerpoint on Design.

Both Powerpoints can be found in the pickup folder. Ms. Silverman - Yearbook 15-16

Assignment from Thursday:
Typography is an important part of design.

As part of this course, you need to understand some basic terminology and building blocks about typography.

1. Go to the 1059 Lakeshore folder and open up the Pick Up folder. Open Ms. Silverman Pick UP and then Yearbook 15-16. Open the powerpoint on Typography Building Blocks.

2. Fill out the handout while viewing the presentation. Hand it in when you are finished.

3. Continue working on either photo selections and editing OR your Camp Olympia or Halloween spread. You should have a sketch to show me by Tuesday of your design idea.
We will be reviewing more about design on Monday.

Once you are finished, please work on your sketch on the layout paper. These sketches MUST be submitted on WEDNESDAY in class. Please use the information on design learned in class on Monday. You can always review the Powerpoint if need be.

Remember there is a test on Friday November 20th.

On the following:
Photography composition
Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO
Sports Photography Basics (from the handout)
Basic Typography
Design Basics

We will review in class on Wednesday
